Wow and flutter — the slow drift and fast shimmer of a tape transport whose motor and pinch-roller have seen better days. Low, it's an almost-steady machine; high, it's a warped C-90 left on a dashboard in the sun. It's pitch movement, so it's most obvious on sustained notes, pads and vocals.
WEAR
One knob for how old and tired the tape is. As you turn it up the high end rolls off, the signal saturates and compresses the way tape does when it's pushed, and cassette hiss fades in underneath. Zero is a fresh, clean tape; maxed is a tenth-generation dub.
DRIVE
How hard you hit the tape. DRIVE pushes the input into the record head so it saturates and compresses — the warm thickening you get from printing hot. Low is clean and faithful; high is pushed, fat and a little squashed. Where WEAR ages the tape, DRIVE is how loud you record onto it.
TAPE TYPE
Three cassette formulations, each with its own voice. Ferric (Type I) — the classic warm, rolled-off home-taped sound. Chrome (Type II) — brighter and cleaner with a crisper top and lower hiss. Metal (Type IV) — the hi-fi tape: the most headroom, the tightest low end, the least colour. Pick the character before you dial WEAR and DRIVE.
MIX
Blend the tape against your original signal. At 100% it's all cassette; pull it back to keep the punch and clarity of the dry track and let the tape sit underneath — parallel tape, lined up so the two stay in phase instead of combing.
And one switch: ENGAGE — the amber lamp by the knobs. It runs the transport. When you turn C-90 on, the reels spin up with a tiny wow-in, the way a real deck does when you press play; switch it off and the signal passes clean through, so you can A/B the tape against the dry track without pulling the plug-in out of the chain.

They're two separate purchases: a C-90 plug-in license is for your DAW and the standalone app, and DEES TAPE PRO unlocks C-90 (and everything else) inside the DEES TAPE apps. You don't need the plug-in to use the built-in C-90, and you don't need DEES TAPE to use the plug-in. In DEES TAPE Desktop you can also load the standalone C-90 plug-in in the VST BOX after a SCAN.
